A gas fire bowl is one of those items a that instantly creates an outdoor living focal point and family gathering spot, and something that we always suggest to our clients as a safer alternative to a fire pit. Simply set up a fire bowl, pull up a chair, and you’ve created an outdoor living space—without a costly masonry remodel.

Fire bowls bring a special aura to an outdoor living design. When we talk about the design of patios, gardens and courtyards, an outdoor fire bowl is an essential element. Who doesn’t enjoy that flickering glow of a fire—adding atmosphere, warmth and adds an inviting allure to outdoor spaces.

Style

There are so many sizes, styles, and shapes of fire bowls to choose from. Another consideration is the material: fire bowls can be made of metal, stone, concrete, brick, copper, even glass. There are also smaller designs that can be portable or even fit on a tabletop.

Fuel-Gas Is Safer

When deciding on an outdoor fire bowl, you’ll need to determine which fuel you’d prefer to burn. This not only will come down to personal preference but will also depend on the location of your fire bowl.

If you’re going to be using a fire bowl near a house—such as on a patio or in a courtyard—choosing a gas or propane fire bowl makes sense. Gas fire bowls are incredibly safe to use as they do not produce sparks or hot embers, making them an ideal choice for those who live in dry areas.

The absence of these sparks and embers allows you to gather around your fire bowl without worrying about the possibility of forest fires or even fires in your own backyard and near your home. For this reason, gas fire bowls are often able to be used in communities within city limits that may not allow the use of wood burning fire pits. Obviously, you also don’t have the risk of a spark flying out of the bowl and hitting you or your kids or guests!

Location

Ensure your fire bowl is located away from flammable materials including buildings, trees, foliage, and structures such as a pergola, shed, garage, or house. Our local fire department suggests that fire bowls and fire pits should be placed a minimum of 10 feet away from any wooden structure or building.

Tops and Covers

It’s important to keep the elements out of your fire bowl. Many fire bowl companies offer metal orhardwood tops that cover the fire bowl to quickly convert it into a table when not in use

You may also want to consider a vinyl cover. This is the easiest and most effective method to protecting your fire pit from water. They come in many sizes, shapes, and colors, but all provide the same functionality

Cost – Return on Your Investment

I always say you get what you pay for, that’s why I recommend Eldorado Stone fire bowls to my clients when remodeling and re-designing patios and outdoor living spaces

Eldorado Stone fire bowls are hand-crafted through an extensive four-step finishing process, which results in subtle, one-of-a-kind variations in color and texture similar to natural limestone. These bowls have a built-in shelf that holds a 65,000 BTU gas / propane burner that feature brass burners and stainless steel, lower shelf, to resist rust and ensure longevity.

Eldorado fire Bowls are available in four colors, each designed to represent a type of natural limestone. You can specify the texture you prefer – honed, for a smooth surface, or Travertine, for a more textures surface. Both include color and texture variations, providing the authentic character and attributes of natural stone.

They offer custom hardwood tops that will quickly convert your fire bowl into an elegant table. A fire bowl from Eldorado stone will cost you approximately $2500.

There are less expensive options out there, but in this case, Eldorado gives us lots of high quality options for our clients that offer creative design, and don’t break the budget when compared to built-in masonry structures. It is also a ton less work than a wood field fire pit or bowl.

Summary

Getting A Cleaning Rag Dirty - 23 Oct 2018 02:45

I have started washing it (when it’s not freezing outside) at the beginning of the month when it comes up. Since I started washing my door, I’ve noticed that the bottom half is splotchy and a lighter blue than the top.</div> <div style=" font-size:="" 12pt;"="">

<div style="font-size: 12pt; No matter how many times I washed it or what kind of soap I used, it never went away. I didn’t pay it much mind, though, as most of my neighbors in the little duplex apartments that I live in have the same problem. I assumed it was fading caused by the sun or something.</div> <div style=" font-size:="" 12pt;"="">

Upgrading from a two wire analog tstat to a Nest, need - 20 Oct 2018 02:46

I am looking to upgrade from an old analog tstat to a Nest. My old stat had only two wires connected (R and W) but the wire bundle had three. So I tried connecting the green wire to C and then turned the power on. Nothing happened, so I switched the green and white just to make sure it was the wire that was the issue. Still nothing. I will admit that I’m a novice, but I really thought this would work. What am I missing?

25th Ask the Builder Anniversary

It all started twenty-five years ago on a dark Saturday morning. I was waiting outside at the curb for my newspaper carrier. He must have thought I was nuts when he handed me the paper through his car window.

I wanted to see my first Ask the Builder column in print. I was alone and everyone else was asleep at the house as I came inside and opened the paper.

target="_blank" rel="noopener

Can you believe it's been twenty-five years? Wow!

target="_blank" rel="noopener CLICK HERE to read a special column I wrote about this special day.

Connections - How it All Started

Here's how Ask the Builder was born. It's important to realize I had always wanted to write a book about how homeowners got the shaft from some builders.

This frustration bubbled to the surface frequently for me. I'd give a quote for a job and often I was the high bidder. I'd explain to homeowners my number was right and that the other bidders might be putting in artificially low allowance numbers or they might be cutting corners.

<span class="ezoic-ad" data-ez-name="askthebuilder_com-medrectangle-4 <span id=" div-gpt-ad-askthebuilder_com-medrectangle-4-0"="" ezaw="580" ezah="400">

Sometimes homeowners believed me and sometimes they didn't.

One Saturday in the late fall of 1992, I was in Dayton, OH, with my wife, son and oldest daughter Meghan. She was participating in an Irish dancing fesh or contest.

I was sitting in a folding metal chair and two chairs over was another dad. Somehow we got to talking and he found out I was a builder and remodeling contractor. I'll never forget his name, Biff Roberts.

"Tell me, do you use nail guns?"

"Oh yeah. I LOVE them. They save so much time and increase productivity!"

"Which one(s) do you use?"

"Are you kidding me? There's only one nail gun to use, Senco."

It turns out he was the head of marketing for Senco. Not too long after, he nominated me to Remodeling magazine as one of the Big 50, a huge award and honor. I had NO IDEA this was in the works.

In May of 1993, I got a phone call from Remodeling magazine telling me I was selected as one of the Big 50. I thought it was a prank call from Sister Susan who ran an orphanage in Jamaica. That's a long story for another day.

It was no prank. Several months later Kathy, my wife if you're a new subscriber, said, "You should take your book idea and write a syndicated newspaper column."

I saw a vision when she said it, went into my office and proceed to write three columns. The following Monday morning I walked into the newsroom of the Cincinnati Enquirer and found the home editor, Ann Haas.

She loved the columns and said she wanted to buy them and start running me each week. She also encouraged me to sell the column to other papers.

I took her advice and by the end of 1993 I had self-syndicated Ask the Builder into about 30 newspapers. Eventually about 120 papers across the USA were running the column.

It still runs today in about 60 USA papers.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Use the following promo code to get a RARE 25% off just about everything at my shopping cart. The sale ends in one week.
